Towards a European research and innovation roadmap on soils and land management

Sustainable soil management is vital to prevent soil degradation and address pressures on land and soil.

The EU-funded SMS project will develop a set of research and innovation (R&I) activities leading to an effective framework for action in Europe and globally in the fields of soil health and land management. The project will identify criteria for living labs and lighthouses, aiming to demonstrate solutions. Moreover, it will apply a transdisciplinary method analysing the needs for R&I and identifying gaps and priority areas as well as types of action for intervention. SMS will engage stakeholders from agriculture and forestry, spatial planning, land remediation, climate action and disaster control. The project will ultimately support the Horizon Europe Mission in the area of soil health and food.
