STREAM

Simulating runoff and erosion in an agricultural context

STREAM (Sealing and Transfer by Runoff and  Erosion in  relation with Agricultural Management is a software package that simulates runoff and erosion in an agricultural context. It is used by 70 organisations (French and foreign research laboratories; water agencies and chambers of agriculture; consultancies) to :

  • propose redevelopment measures within catchment areas,
  • conduct scientific research.

STREAM has been designed to have very few input parameters and for these parameters to be easy to measure. This does not prevent it from performing as well as more complex software. Another original feature of STREAM is that it simulates the flow network taking into account the directions in which the soil is worked (and not just the relief), thereby improving the realism of the simulations.

STREAM is spatialised and calculates flows at each point in a catchment area for a complete rainfall event. It runs on ArcView 9.x GIS.
