Is there a lot of Clostridia, the bacterium that causes botulism, in French soil? The first study on the subject presents its findings.

Botulism is a serious neurological disease caused by a toxin produced by bacteria called Clostridia. Scientific literature has shown that soil is a major reservoir of these bacteria. However, until now, no study has been carried out in France to determine the presence of this bacterium in French soils and to understand the soil factors influencing its occurrence. This article therefore represents the first study to provide an overall picture of the distribution of this bacterium in France, enabling animal and human botulism epidemics to be better understood and managed.
